7. ?The Tiger Lillies,? Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art ?

Strictly speaking, it may be a cabaret, but it was more theatrically

electrifying than much else. Unique, disturbing, hysterical and weirdly

touching in unexpected places, it was material such as Kurt Weill might

write if he were crossed with Edward Gorey and the Marquis de Sade. And

the deeply idiosyncratic performances might have come out of an insane

asylum for the criminally gifted.
