Tiger Lillies in concert
An musical evening of radical British humour at Athens' Lycabettus
The lucky ones enjoyed their perfomances last winter in Athens, when
the group took the audience by storm. Presenting a startling mixture of
opera and gypsy songs, Tiger Lillies create a world where anarchy,
hilarity and Brechtian influences mingle to form a unique spectacle.
The unpredictable group arrives in Athens in September 21, to give just
one concert at the faboulous open-ait theater of Lycabettus Hill with a
vew to the capital's skyline by night. Be there! Tiger Lillies
were formed in the 90's, under the guidance of Martin Jacques, singer
of the group. Back then, in the district of Soho, in London, Jacques
along with Adrian Huge (drums) and Adrian Stout (bass), started to
perform in small clubs and soon became pretty famous. On
stage, the band is a frenetic three-ring circus. Martin Jacques' voice
could be a voice of a "castrati" that sings about the dark side of the
moon. Prostitutes, drug addicts, barflies and losers, a whole
underground world revives through their perfomances. As Martin Jacques
comments himself: "The Tiger Lillies make music for people who don't
really fit." Their perfomances at the open-ait theater
of Lycabettus Hill should not be missed. Who knows? Maybe it's a good
chance to find out whether you belong to the dark side of the moon or
not...
